Of the seven members that form the internationally renowned K-pop band, BTS, three are the designated songwriters of the group – RM, J-Hope and Suga, and their job is just as taxing, crucial and creative to the process of developing and releasing each new song of the group as writing the lyrics, composing the music and crooning a song all go hand in hand. So, have you ever wondered what inspires the trio of RM, J-Hope and Suga to dish out those beautiful words in BTS songs. Well, at least one of them, Suga, has opened up about his inspiration behind the songs he writes.
Opening up about the other aspect of his career as a musician other than singing – songwriting – in an interview with Weverse Magazine, Suga had said that he had tried a melody for the first time in 2020 and as he started knowing the fun of music, it opened a lot of new doors for him, which made it kind of easy working on it (songwriting). He added that he just played a beat and wrote from the beginning until the end in just 30 minutes, confessing that, in the end, the song almost wrote itself. He also admitted in the same interview to liking moderns trends of pop and hip-hop crossing boundaries between vocals and rap.
Revealing in another interview with Buzzfeed how the music he listened to as a kid eventually inspired his lyrics, Suga confessed that most of the music that he grew up listening to talked about dreams, hope and introspection in the midst of despair, which in turn, influenced him and shaped him both as a person and artist, driving him to impart that kind of influence back to his fans.
