K-pop band, BTS, known as Bangtan Sonyeondan manage to grab headlines every other day. Just a couple of days back, BTS was in the news for their Grammy outfits. The boy band who turned up in monochrome designer suits won several hearts for their Reed carpet outing. So much so that, their outfits would be on display at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. Now, they have managed to grab headlines for a different reason altogether. Reports of the boy band enlisting themselves in the Army have been doing the rounds for a while.
For the unversed, there's this condition or shall we say mandate, for the able-bodied men to serve in the military compulsorily for two years. As per a report in Reuters, the ministry has announced that all those who have refrained from the same should have to abide by the rules. "Exempting pop culture artists from military service, even though they have made a contribution to the country’s reputation, is not in line with the government’s stance to uphold justice and fairness," the ministry had announced, read a report in Reuters.
However, there have been few exemptions for some artists. And hence, as per a report from Yonhap News, Park Yang-woo who is the minister for culture, sports and tourism has expressed that he hopes the popular band, BTS gets an exemption from the same. "Unlike classical arts or sports, it is difficult to fix the criteria of the selection in the popular culture and arts fields," the minister of culture, sports, and tourism said.
However, the news of BTS serving in the army was squashed by their management company, Big Hit Entertainment. In a statement, the entertainment company said, "We aren’t sure why such a story was reported, but those reports about BTS enlisting in the military this year are not true." a report in Showbiz Cheatsheet read.

But the boy band seems to be in the favour to serve their country. Talking about the same Billboard journalist, Tamar Herman, revealed that the band members are in support of the military service. "There’s this idea that this might put a halt to their popularity, but their fandom is so big, I personally don’t think it will,"
What will happen? Will BTS enlist themselves after-all and go on a definite hiatus or will they be exempted from serving the country? Time will tell.
