News of Sonakshi Sinha's apparent act at Justin Bieber's concert became fodder for a huge controversy recently. According to multiple reports, the actress was supposed to sing at Bieber's concert in Mumbai on May 10. Though she had not confirmed these rumours, several singers like Armaan Malik, Amaal Malik, Kailash Kher slammed the actress. Armaan had tweeted saying that Sonakshi should just act and leave the stage and mic for them. This whole debate about actors turning singers became a huge controversy, but looks like Ayushmann Khurana has something very important to say to everyone, especially about Sonakshi Sinha's Justin Beiber concert controversy.
During a recent interview with us, when we asked him about his take on the ongoing debate and his stand on the whole controversy, Ayushmann mentioned, "To begin with, let me tell you it is a very Indian tradition of lip-syncing songs. I have been doing musicals since childhood and there was this musical called Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by Andy Lloyd Webber in film school and most of the actors in it were also singers. But in our country, it is a norm that we have lip-sync. In the West, you genuinely sing your own songs. So I don't know what's the whole hoopla about it. If you sing your own songs, it lends more credibility to your onscreen character." Coming to the Bieber concert, the Meri Pyaari Bindu star extended his support to Sonakshi and added, "Talking about this Beiber concert, I think it was just a commercial aspect (decision). There is a hierarchy in our industry; I don't know if it's right or wrong, but we are obsessed with cricket and cinema. These are huge entities in our country - cricket and cinema. Automatically, they are given the spotlight - cricketers and actors. Even if Shah Rukh Khan sings Sooraj Hua Madham, people will believe he is a singer. He owns that song. While seeing Gerua people believe that Shah Rukh has done the song. He owns that song because we consume music visually. It is ironic. It is after we see the visuals and videos, that we start liking the song. When the album comes out, we feel it is an 'OK' song but when you see the film, you are like 'Ohh, wow it's a great song.' It's just tradition. So I think the decision was for the visual element and the commercial aspect. An actor will always be more saleable than a singer. It's always been been that. Is it right or wrong, we can debate about it. But that's the tradition in our country, what can you do?" While we totally agree with what Ayushmann has to say, we have a very important question in our head. Over the past few years, several actors from Sonakshi Sinha to Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar and Ayushmann Khurrana have sung songs at concerts and in movies. So why the hullabaloo suddenly? Just because Justin Bieber is coming to town or is there some other reason? Well, looks like only the singers can answer this query. But in the meanwhile, we can confirm that neither Sonakshi nor Ayushmann will be performing at Bieber's Purpose tour...
