Dibakar Banerjee opens up about Detective Byomkesh Bakshy 2; says Sushant Singh Rajput would have wanted it [EXCLUSIVE]

We recently had an exclusive chat with maverick Director Dibakar Banerjee, the man behind one of Sushant Singh Rajput's best performances ever, which left us smiling and hopeful for a Detective Byomkesh Bakshy 2.

Sushant Singh Rajput will forever be remember not only because his untimely demise has left such a gaping hole, but also because of the fantastic work he did in his short-lived career. Some of his movies and roles will go down as classics, having impacted millions both intellectually, emotionally and entertainment-wise. And if we were to ask anybody about his best film of all, no prizes for guessing that it'd be a neck-to-neck, two-way race between Chhichhore and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy. While the former will remain an emotional, heartfelt roller-coaster to many, the latter is regarded as one of the best cat-and-mouse thrillers to ever emerge from Bollywood. However, only one has scope for a sequel, and it's Byomkesh Bakshy.

While it'd be impossible to imagine a sequel without Sushant Singh Rajput, we recently spoke to maverick Director Dibakar Banerjee, the vision behind inarguably one of the best performances of the actor, which left us smiling and hopeful in the end. Revealing his wish for a Detective Byomkesh Bakshy 2 in our exclusive interview, Dibakar Banerjee said, “Making a sequel to Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is something that I have desired. I feel the story can be taken forward into a franchise. Of course, we'd have to cast another actor, but it is something I believe Sushant would have wanted.”

Sushant Singh Rajput no doubt left an indelible mark on the character, but if there's one Director who has the acumen to fit another actor into the role without tarnishing the essence of the first film or the late actor's memory, we're confident it's Dibakar Banerjee. Fingers crossed that his dream meets its fruition.
