Over the past year, nepotism has become the hottest debated topic in Bollywood ,with everybody from those in the industry and others connected to it on the outside to the media and many in the public with no clue how the industry functions putting in their two pence. Contrastingly, if you take Telugu cinema into question, which is run by many more film families and boasts far more star kids as opposed to Bollywood (the Hindi film industry has actually always and still sees many outsiders make it as compared to star kids); nepotism rarely seems to have even touched the outskirts of Tollywood, with the audience mostly interested in patronizing Telugu movie on the buzz they generate and then judging them on their merit and nothing else. To get a clearer idea of the contrasting picture, BollywoodLife sat down for an exclusive interview with Allu Sirish, younger brother of Allu Arjun, cousin Ram Charan, Sai Dharam Tej and Varun Tej, and nephew of Chiranjeevi, and he graciously shed some light on the topic.
“Why is it (nepotism debate) happening in Hindi cinema, I have no clue, but in Telugu (cinema) we have mostly remained unaffected by it because for every star kid, there's one non-star-kid who's as successful or more successful. So, it's all meritocracy — people have come from film families who didn't do well...it's only meritocracy, that's why I think it hasn't affected us. For example, one of Vijay Deverakonda's biggest hit (Geetha Govindham) was produced by my father (Allu Aravind), Nani's biggest hit was produced by my father,” says Allu Sirish.
Upon reminding him that there have been and are at present many in Bollywood who've tasted great success after coming from outside the industry, and he adds, “So, here we really don't have that camp thing to take seriously, everybody works with each other, the industry is like one family, star kids and the ones from outside are all friends, we promote, each other, help each other, hang out with each other, there's a more friendly cordial vibe here, so, I think that's why (nepotism hasn't affected Tollywood)...there's a very welcoming vibe, everybody's welcome.”
