Kawach 2 has gone on air from this weekend and fans are already raving about Angad Jindal. Actor Namik Paul is playing the role of the businessman, who falls in love with his employee and finally proposes to her. The first episode was quite spooky and viewers have liked the intriguing plot. This is Namik's first show with Balaji Telefilms. BollywoodLife caught up with Namik for a chat. He told us, "I am glad that people are getting scared (laughs out loud). When I read the script, I found it scary and hoped that what we envisaged on paper would be executed well onscreen. The fact that people are spooked is what matters." Namik, has spent his life in Dehradun and says he has heard eerie local tales in his childhood. "I feel very place has its share of spooky tales. My dad was in the IAS and we travelled all over the state and we did hear the stories. Some people spoke about a lady in white who would be seen on desolate roads and how some women with inverted feet were spotted. I have not seen anything though! There is always fear combined with a sense of curiosity when someone hears about the supernatural," he says.
An avid reader, Namik grew up on a staple of horror stories. "I read a lot of Ruskin Bond and Satyajit Ray's horror stories, which were set in India. My dad would get those for me. I have also read Roald Dahl's short scary stories. So, the fascination was there," he states. The actor was last seen on Ek Deewana Tha, which was again a show with supernatural elements. "I played a ghost in that show. Honestly, I was a bit apprehensive but then I was told that I am a normal guy on this guy. So, I was not repeating myself per se. Also, who does not want to work with Balaji Telefilms? One cannot pick any project just because one does not want to repeat the genre. Everything has to fall in place," he opines. The actor also reacted on the debate surrounding the workplace romance in Kawach 2. He said, "See, it is not like he is stalking her or making it uncomfortable for her at work. Angad is in love with her for two years and finally confesses his feelings. I feel as long as there is no breach of workplace ethics, it is fine. Angad has left the decision to Sandhya (Deepika Singh) and I don't see any problem in that."
Namik also spoke about Deepika Singh. "She is very kicked about the show. Her enthusiasm is infectious. This is the start and we're shooting late nights. To have someone who is always smiling and gung-ho is a blessing for the whole unit, and not just me. Deepika is a great performer and a total professional," he gushes. Whether it was Ek Duje Ke Vaaste or Ek Deewana Tha, girls have always adored Namik on screen. "You never get tired of the love you receive from people. As actors, we crave for this kind of recognition. In Dehradun, people have come upto me with compliments and it's all very sweet. I feel thankful for the love," he states.
The actor also opened up on his single status and why his folks do not pressurize him about marriage. "The kind of work we do is very absorbing. It does not leave time for anything else. Of course, there are people who manage both beautifully but a relationship is not what something I am looking at right now. I would not like to short-change my career or my love life, I want to strike the ideal balance. It took me a while to get where I am now. Yes, whenever I go for friend or relatives' weddings, I hear 'Abhi Tera Number Aa Gaya'. I don't get the logic. I will marry when I feel like it, there is no number to it. Also, my folks are not saying 'Shaadi Shaadi' all the time, which I am thankful for. They mention it at times. My family understands my priorities," he says. Well, a lot of hearts will surely break when Namik reveals that he is finally taken!
