Riya Sen entered the film industry with Style featuring Sharman Joshi and Sahil Khan. She went on to do multiple projects in Bollywood and the 38-year-old soon ventured into regional cinema. In 2017, Riya Sen was back in the game with Ekta Kapoor's web series, Ragini MMS: Returns and now she has taken the digital route once again. Riya Sen latest web-offering is titled Poison wherein she stars alongside Arbaaz Khan, Freddy Daruwala and Tanuj Virwani among others. During the promotions of Poison, BollywoodLife spoke to Riya Sen, who had a lot to say. From staying away from Bollywood to choosing a digital platform, the actress spilled the beans:
Here are the excerpts from our chat:
#You messaged Zee5 CEO expressing your desire to take up Poison. As an actor who has done such great work, were you hesitant to ask?
-No, I wasn’t hesitant at all, transparency and a genuine willingness to be a part of a project is something that I hold more value than perception.
#Do you think your non-glamorous character in Poison will help change people's perception about you?
-People’s perceptions of me are based on their own thoughts and that has nothing to do with me. I am not sure if my role in poison will change that.
#It's been long since we last saw you on the big screen. On a personal note, what made you stay away from Bollywood?
-I have evolved as an actress over time, now I am looking for roles that personally stimulate and challenge me. I didn’t find that coming from mainstream Bollywood, hence the absence.
#Today when you look back at your filmy career, do you regret any characters or films?
-Let’s put this in perspective - I’ve been acting since class nine! As you can imagine I’ve experienced myriad roles. Looking back, there are of course some roles that I wish I could’ve done differently.
#Two years ago you surprised everyone with your digital debut- Ragini MMS: Returns. Was the transition from the silver screen to digital space difficult for you?
-I’ve been looking forward to working in the digital space since some time now. I was happy that Ragini MMS: Returns happened, it opened up opportunities for many other web series. The transition was extremely positive for me and I’m very happy working in this space.
#Since you've done both movies and web series, which medium do you prefer?
As I mentioned before, I’m very happy working in the digital space. Having said that, I would not turn down an opportunity to work on a film, if it’s the right fit for me.
#Did the thought ever cross your mind to explore work on the small screen?
-No, I haven't given it a thought yet.
#Are you considering any Bollywood films right now?
- Of course, I’ve always been open to good Bollywood films.
On a parting note, Riya Sen revealed that she will soon feature in a Hindi web series titled, Pati Patni Aur Woh and a Bengali comedy web series, Mismatch 2.
