John Abraham's action film, Batla House, opened in cinemas on a good note. The film, based on the real Batla House encounter, was off to a flying start with a box office collection of Rs 14.59 crore on day 1, despite its big clash with Akshay Kumar starrer Mission Mangal on Independence Day. Before Batla House hit the silver screens, there were petitions filed against Batla House at the Delhi High Court and petitioners wanted to stall the film's release. However, on August 13, the makers of Batla House got a clearance from the High Court with minor changes and the film released in cinemas on August 15 itself.
Since the judgement came in the evening on 13th August, it took some time for the makers to reach out to the audience, in the context that Batla House got a delayed-release in few centres. Apologising on behalf of the entire team, director Nikkhil Advani tweeted, "A big ? PanoramaMovies @anandpandit63 for working tirelessly for the last 48hrs. Apologies to the centres where #BatlaHouse got a delayed-release. Gratitude to the audiences, the reviewers and for those who had issues we at @EmmayEntertain will work harder next time."
And because of the delayed-release in few centres, John Abraham has admitted to the fact that there was a loss of about a few crores on day one. In an EXCLUSIVE interaction with BollywoodLife, John said, "First of all, I want to thank everyone for the fantastic response that they have given to Batla House. Thanks to the audience who have accepted this film wholeheartedly and critics for being so kind to this film because I feel Batla House deserved it. Of course, we have got some Rs 15.5 to 16 cr on day 1 but it would have been Rs 2 cr more, had the prints reached out on time. Judgement from our honourable high court came till 13th (August) evening so it took us a little time to reach out. So, there was a loss of about Rs 1.5- 2 crore on day 1 but it's okay we will make up for it. But, as you said, the response from the audience has been FANTASTIC and it is a relief for me and Nikkhil."
And as John mentioned, the revised day 1 figure of Batla House is Rs 15.55 crore as compared to the previous figure which Rs 14.59 crore. Meanwhile, Batla House continues to enjoy a smooth run at the ticket windows. The film raked in Rs 8.84 crore and now the total stands at Rs 24.39 crore.
