Siddhant Chaturvedi has been the biggest catch of 2019. The actor, who started his career with a small TV show titled Kya Mast Hai Life, was noticed for playing Prashant Kanojiya in Farhan Akhtar-helmed Inside Edge. The digital series, which revolved around cricket, glamour and crime, saw Chaturvedi playing a small-town underdog. However, by the next year, things changed for Siddhant, when Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy released. MC Sher, a supporting character played by Siddhant in the film, was lauded by the masses and the critics, making Siddhant the find of the year. 2019 started with Gully Boy and ended with the second season of Inside Edge, where Siddhant returned to play the timid cricketer going through a life-changing turmoil.
During an exclusive chat with BollywoodLife, Siddhant reveals how his Prashant Kanojiya from the second season took a toll on his mental health. The actor shot for the second season two months after his massive breakout in February 2019. "The character was really dark and it played with my head (this year). I locked myself in the room. It took a toll on my mental health," Siddhant mentions. The actor, who lost weight for the character, also points out how his performance did not get the hype. "There was no media reaction, no interaction and nobody picked that up because it was a web show," Siddhant laments. Ask if the no limelight, bothered the actor, Siddhant nonchalantly mentions, "I’m not the protagonist of the show. I’m just there. There was nothing much to do with the track. I took a backseat in this one since my character was facing some issues. There was no question if I’m doing the second season, because of commitment. It’s a show and in the third season something else will happen."
During the conversation, Siddhant also declares that he is not going to be a part of the third season of the cricket drama. "I'm not a part of the third one. Because now I’m focusing on films. And I don't see that (the character) growing anywhere, because the guy is mentally too blocked to play anymore."
The actor has two big banner films in his kitty for this year. One is the Shakun Batra's Dharma Production and the other is YashRaj's Bunty Aur Babli's sequel. However, that doesn't mean Siddhant is playing to ditch the digital space. "I would love to be a part of a kickass web show," denying the chances of him leaving the digital space. "Most of the traditional actors still don’t get it (the digital platform), because they think if you are on a downfall, you go and do a web-show. And I want to change that too. That’s a part of my long term plan."
However, currently, Siddhant is going to focus on films as his dates are all blocked. While talking about the digital platform, Siddhant happened to reveal that he was supposed to play Vikrant Massey's character Bablu in another digital series Mirzapur. "I would have killed to be in Mirzapur. I had auditioned for Vikrant Massey’s character but things didn’t work out as for me it was very similar to the UP roles so I didn’t do it."
He also points out that a digital series on Hussain Zaidi's Dongri to Dubai is being made and he wishes to be a part of it. "I'll come back and do something on Apple TV maybe," he laughs off.
