The pretty lass spilt some beans about her upcoming films and her journey in the industry so far
She started her career in the Tamil film industry with a big bang with Attakathi. Today, she’s popularly known as ‘Attakathi Nandita’ and has worked in numerous films that have been appreciated by critics and audience alike. Her performances have been applauded and she stole the audience’s hearts as Poornima, Valli, Kumudha and Kalaivani. Hailing from Bangalore Nandita, says she’s in happy space today in Kollywood and is looking forward to her upcoming films. Here are excerpts from an exclusive interview:
You started your career in Tamil with Attakathi and went on to good films like Mundasupatti and Ethir Neechal. Are you happy with where you are today?
Yes, of course. Because the Tamil film industry has given me respect and offered me good roles and good movies. There will be no complete fulfilment in any artist’s life and it’s the same in my case. I want to do more roles and I’m happy for what I have achieved so far here.
You're talented but do you think you are getting typecast in conservative, village and girl-next-door roles?
Sometimes I do feel this but I’m happy to get such roles as well. And all my roles have given me lot of homework. (Laughs) I have definitely learnt a lot of things including Tamil!
Tell us about Radha Mohan's Uppu Karvadu. It is his first comedy film.
Oh, there are a lot of things to talk about as this is my favourite movie! I just completed my portions in the film today. I enjoyed each and every moment of the shoot. Uppu Karvadu will definitely break that village girl image and people will be able to see Nandita's other face in acting. I must thank director Radha Mohan for this role. I’m hoping for the best. I’m looking forward to the film this year.
Is comedy your forte?
(Laughs) Nothing like that! Cinema is entertainment. People come to the theatre to get some relief. As an artist, I have to make them laugh. That's why my first preference is comedy scripts. At the same time, I am also getting a lot of comedy subjects. (Grins)
What are some of the other films you're doing?
I have Idam Porul Eval produced by Thirupathi Brothers and directed by Seenu Ramaswamy with Vijay Sethupathy as the hero. I’m doing Anjala with Vimal where I play a Madurai girl. I have completed an untitled project with Bharat Bala’s associate director Rajshekar. This is a love story. And I’ve just finished the first schedule of a horror film with Mirchi Shiva. This is yet to be titled.
What are the kind of roles you'd like to do in future?
I am happy with all the roles I have done so far. I’m not expecting anything. I’m a director’s actress and I want to make sure I bring their characters to life the way they perceive them on screen. At the same time, I want praise and appreciation for my acting from the audience and my fans. (Smiles)
