Did you know Rajkummar Rao was the first choice for Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak? Well, this is something which the Made In China actor himself confessed on a chat show earlier this year. The actor had to unfortunately let go off the movie as his date diary was full. Confirming the same, Rajkummar had said, "I didn't turn it down. Of course not! I loved that script but my dates were so messed up. I'm so looking forward to that film. I kept telling Meghna and Deepika that it's my loss." While Rajkummar couldn't do the film, Vikrant Massey was soon brought on board for Chhapaak, which is based on the real-life story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.
Recently, when we sat down for an exclusive conversation with Chhapaak's director Meghna Gulzar, we asked the filmmaker if Rajkummar was actually the first choice of her film. To which, Meghna stated, "That is something neither me nor Deepika (Padukone) said. It is a media-created story." With this, Meghna also mentioned to us that Vikrant Massey was the one who was always on her mind for Alok Dixit's character. "For me, as I said, I instinctively start thinking of my actor. Like, when we were writing the character of Malti and by the time we reached the end of the draft, I could only see Deepika. Same happened with Vikrant."
On being asked if she had seen any of Vikrant's previous works, the filmmaker stated, "I have been wanting to work with him since I saw him in A Death In The Kunj and we've admired each other's work for so many years. For me, he fit my character, who is a guy from North India, a social activist, kind of dismantled personality but with a warm emotional interior."
