Hailing from Jamshedpur, Rasika Dugal saw a massive growth in her fandom in the past two years, with two of her digital shows releasing back-to-back and making a big splash at that. The sensational Mirzapur (2018) saw her as the sultry Beena Tripathi, who cheats on her gangster husband Kaleen Bhaiya with her house help. While the critically acclaimed Delhi Crime (2019) saw her playing a rookie police officer, Neeti Singh, who is left aghast by the heinous crime she investigates. Both shows showed Rasika for the ace performer she is. However, many who have followed Rasika's career like me would agree that she had shown her real potential in some beautiful films like Qissa, Hamid and Manto.
For BollywoodLife's video series Takeaway, the actress, who is currently seen in Out of Love, another digital series that was recently released, and is presently shooting for an international series by Mira Nair, A Suitable Boy opens up on her journey from FTII to today. "I used to stand in line for 2-3 hours for one single AD audition," Rasika reminisces. "And I don't know how I did it. I didn't think at the time that I was doing something spectacularly difficult. Now, when I look back, I think I had a lot of patience."
Watch the fourth episode of Takeaway with Rasika Duggal:
Rasika, despite being a strong performer, is anxious about her future. She says she is unstill unsure of where her next piece of work will come from. "There will be a year when you'll be working very hard and then there will be a year when you won't get much work," she exclaims. While taking us through her journey, Rasika revealed that there were "many days" when she felt she can't continue acting. "I felt like nahi ho raha hai ab." She continues narrating an incident when, in a year (between Manto and Qissa), she had almost signed five projects, but they didn't work out as the producers of the film replaced her. "I had almost signed on to 5 projects, but most of them didn't work out as the producers didn't agree," she remembers. "The producers said she is not good known enough to be cast."
Today, Rasika is considered one of more sorted actresses of her league. Stay tuned to BollywoodLife for more scoops and updates.
