The return of the hunk is keenly awaited by his fans…
Mohit Raina agrees on the fact that he will be eternally associated with the character of Mahadev but feels the audience is aware enough to know the difference between an actor and character. When we met him at a media briefing, he was dressed in blue denims and a white shirt (needless to say the women were swooning) and surprised us with his warmth, candour and sense of humour. Mohit will be making his debut tonight as Chand Ashoka in Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat. He will be shown as a ruthless and feared warrior who still pines for his lady love, princess Kaurwaki. This is what Mohit revealed in a media interaction…
On playing larger than life roles
Mujhe lat lag gayee hai larger than life characters ki. Post Mahadev, I was waiting for something that was iconic. Ashoka was launched in February 2015 and I had my eyes on it. Though I was not confident about bagging the titular role, I was sure I would definitely aspire for Ashoka’s character.
On matching Siddharth Nigam’s standards
Siddharth Nigam has done a brilliant job on the show. I did a bit of horse-riding and practiced sword-fighting for the show. Sid has a lean body and is very acrobatic. I had to work-out to become leaner like him. Of course, he is a gymnast. Siddharth has set a high benchmark in these 14 months. I will try my best. If the audiences keeping on demanding him, we will get him back as Ashoka’s son (laughs out loud).
On his shy and reserved nature
I won’t say I am too shy or reserved by nature. I am a bit boring. When we have not started working together as a team as yet and it takes time to develop a bond with your colleagues. As time goes by, you might find all of us chilling at a dhaba in Karjat. The actor was also quizzed about not taking his cell-phone on the sets. “Frankly, it has nothing to do with extra dedication or concentration. My Mahadev costume did not have pockets so I could not keep my phone. There is no pocket in my Ashoka outfit as well. At least, you can listen to music when you have your phone,” he clarified.
On social networking
I am a boring guy. I used to be active on Twitter earlier but I just can’t follow up on these things.
On his dancing abilities
I would say I am a good dancer. After all, I did the tandav in Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev. I won’t mind doing a show like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.

I tried holding a guy and telling her that I loved her but I found it dull. May be it will be more fun telling a girl that I love her while riding on a horse. There is a lot of scope for an actor in shows like Ashoka as the journey of such individuals is interesting. Ashoka was a rebel, a great son, a ruthless warrior, a legendary king and so much more. Such roles give me the adrenaline rush.
