Sayani Gupta on being rejected for a major Sushant Singh Rajput film: I was very heartbroken [Exclusive]

For BollywoodLife's new video series, Takeaway, Sayani opened the doors of her house and also her journey. She took us to the days of her struggle and we were left mesmerized on how the actress still doesn't show any chinks in her armour.

Bollywood actress Sayani Gupta appeared on the big screen for the first time in 2012 in Second Marriage Dot Com. While the film didn't leave a mark, Sayani did. Post her debut, the actress, who is an FTII pass out, went on to do films like Fan (2016), Jolly LLB 2 (2017) and Article 15 (2019). Sayani also did not shy away from essaying the role of a blind Pakistani gay activist in Shonali Bose's Margarita with a Straw. For BollywoodLife's new video series, Takeaway, Sayani opened the doors of her house and also her journey. She took us back to her struggling days and we were left mesmerised by how the actress still doesn't show any chinks in her armour.

In the episode, Sayani revealed how she was rejected by popular casting director Shanoo Sharma (you don't even need to Google her, she is that famous), who claimed that she couldn’t be a YRF heroine, but eventually cast her as one in Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan. "You are not here to fight any notions; I'm here to work as hard and beyond what I can imagine myself (to do)," Sayani said. The actress, who was also seen in the digital show, Four More Shots Please, also opened up about the time she felt dejected when she was rejected for Dibanker Banerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshy (2015). "I was very heartbroken," Sayani laments, "I was so sure that I'm getting the part."
