Pankuri Awasthy has returned to television after a gap of 1.5 years and how! The actress has joined the cast of Mohsin Khan and Shivangi Joshi's Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. The show recently took a 5-year leap and Pankhuri made a grand entry. She essays the role of Vedika who is like a family member in the Goenka family. Vedika visits the place so much that people have started linking her with Kartik while the Goenkas want Kartik to marry her and move on in life. It's been more than 10 days since Pankhuri began shooting for Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and she is enjoying working on the show which is the longest running daily soap on Indian television.
Recently, Pankhuri exclusively spoke to BollywoodLife about her character in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, what fans can expect from her, how her life has changed after marriage and whether she would work with her husband Gautam Rode again or not.
Here are excerpts from BollywoodLife's interview with Pankhuri Awasthy for Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai...
How does it feel to be a part of the longest running show (Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai) on television?
It feels great and nice to be back with a show which is so popular on the small screen. I return to the daily soap format after almost one and half year, so it is great that way.
How has life changed after your marriage to Gautam Rode?
Life has been amazing, you know. Gautam and I know each other from before. We dated for two years before getting married. The only thing that has been changed is that now we stay together and are by each other's side always (laughs). I am there for him and so is he. It is the companionship which is needed when you're together through thick and thin.
Given the right script, would you work with Gautam again?
I would love to, it will be so much fun. We really enjoyed working with each other, so yeah it will be great (to collaborate with Gautam).
Having said that, there were reports about you guys taking up Nach Baliye Season 9...
We were approached for Nach Baliye but the show got pushed. And uske baad, I am not aware.
How was your first day on the sets of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai like?
The major part of my first day on the sets went into settling both into the character and for me in real life. It was a new set, everybody (in YRKKH) has been associated for long and I was the new person. I had to focus on myself, mingle with everyone and get the hang of the character. So, the first two-three days and even now, I am still figuring the character (Vedika).
Did you follow Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai before you began working in it?
I followed the show when it started but after that I lost the track. The best thing about Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai for me is that I am doing a show of this genre for the first time. My last show was even social but it was very hard-hitting and realistic. With YRKKH, I am playing a role in the social space where there is family drama, relations and everything. Personally, what I like about this show is the bond and beauty of relationships. The title of the show is very apt - it is not about one but all characters. This show justifies every character.
What kind of response are you expecting from fans?
I know what my fans are expecting but I want them to give my character Vedika, some space. The show is already famous for its lead couple Kartik and Naira. And now, with this girl (Vedika) entering their lives, people are very apprehensive. I want to tell them, "Calm down and let this character breathe." They will soon realise that shouldn't bother them.
