The film is entertaining in parts, but an interesting plot seems to be lost in a regular masala flick
In an industry bustling with commercial heroes and superstars, Vikram is one of those rare actors who has time and again proved that he can handle both classy and massy films.
Known for his dedication and outstanding screen presence, Vikram mesmerised everyone by playing different characters in Shankar's I. In his latest film, 10 Endrathukulla, Vikram is here to cater to the needs of the masses by playing an out and out commercial action hero. Does he manage to give us a paisa vasool film? Partly yes and partly no!
What's it about:
Vikram is a terrific car racer, who goes by the names like James Bond, Sunil Gavaskar, Mani Ratnam and many others. Using his abilities to drive car like a superhuman, Bond does odd smuggling jobs to save money for his comatose sister's treatment. After stealing a package of small time smuggler Doss (Pasupathy), he starts to work for Doss. In the meantime, he meets Shakeela ( Samantha) , who is cute but blonde girl hell bent to learn driving from our hero. Pooran Singh ( Abhimanyu Singh) hires Doss to kidnap Shakeela and Bond, unaware of this deal, takes Shakeela to Mussorie to hand her over to Pooran Singh. On their way to Mussorie, Shakeela and Bond fall in love. When Bond learns about the real deal between Doss and Pooran Singh, he beats up the villain and his goons to pulp. But the battle is far from over as Pooran Singh is working under someone else. Who is this guy? Why does he want to Shakeela so badly? What's so special about this blonde girl? You will have to watch the film as I don't intend to give out spoilers.
10 Endrathukulla is not exactly as fast paced and gripping as Hollywood flicks like Fast and Furious and Transporter from which it is inspired, but is nonetheless entertaining thanks to its plot twists in second half. The filmmaker, Vijay Milton, throws in some interesting twists which manage to surprise you. Vikram is the shinning star of the film as he single handedly carries the film forward with his acting chops, terrific stunts and unmatched charisma, Instead of coming off as a run of the mill action hero, Vikram's sincere performance makes you enjoy his mass hero antics. Samantha is cute as usual and has surprising shade to her character late in the second half. Pasupathy is awesome as the small time goon Doss, who always gets outwitted by Vikram. Both Pasupathy and Samantha walk away with a few hilarious scenes. Abhimanyu Singh has given a decent performance as the villain although you wished he was little more menacing. The car chase scenes at the start of the film are enthralling and you wish there were more of it throughout the film.
Instead of making a taut suspenseful entertainer out of a promising plot, Vijay Milton burdens the screenplay with unnecessary cliches in the same of masala film. Vikram's back story of a comatose sister and sibling sentiment looks so out of place. In order to add romance into the picture, there are few ordinary romantic scenes between Vikram and Samantha, which just drags the film. For an action film, the high octane moments are few and far in between. The ease with which Vikram beats up the bad guys is such a turn off as there is no fun without competition. The visual effects in the film are extremely shoddy that I don't have words to describe. The songs are out of place in most occasions, and the song Gana Gana between Vikram and Charmee is so silly that you can't believe that it is actually in the film. D Imman's music is below average. There is lack of logic in a lot of scenes. Why would people of Uttarakhand speak fluent Tamil? Not just Rahul Dev and his goons but even common man in Mussorie is shown speaking Tamil. The film has an 80's touch to it and I am not saying it in a good way.
What to do:
If you wish to watch a film just for the sake of pure entertainment without giving a f**k about logic and cliches, then go for it! 10 Endrathukulla is a treat for Vikram fans, while others might find it only mildly entertaining.
