Anupam Kher was just 28 when he played Pradhan, a retired middle class Maharashtrian man. The actor had prepared for eight months for playing the retired stubborn old man who was almost double his age. He went on to win Filmfare Award for Best Actor for Saaransh which was just his second film.
Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit might have stolen all the limelight in Ram Lakhan but Anupam Kher’s role as Deodar Shastri, a stingy Rajasthani businessman, is still remembered fondly. This character, of Madhuri’s father, not only earned him an award for Best Comedian but it also helped him prove his versatility as an actor.
Lamhe is one of those films where Anupam Kher’s role is totally irreplaceable. The film wasn’t a great hit at the box-office because of its supposed incest theme but the movie is still remembered for Anupam’s hilarious role.
Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991)
Now who doesn’t remember the last scene of Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin where the daughter’s father asks her to run from her own shaadi ka mandap. Anupam Kher nailed it as a over-possessive yet doting father.
Hum Aapke Hain Koun(1994)
The family drama would have been incomplete without Anupam Kher’s nautanki. I don’t know about you guys but for me the best scene of the movie was where Anupam plays Sholay’s Veeru. Watch the scene here!
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge(1995)
You can’t call yourself a DDLJ fan if you don’t remember Anupam Kher’s part. Anupam as Shah Rukh Khan aka Raj’s dad gave some serious parenting goals to everyone.
He might be more popular for his comic roles but you can’t ignore his serious roles. Don’t you think Veer Zaara’s court scenes would have been incomplete without Anupam ?
A Wednesday is associated with Nasseruddin Shah but the film wouldn’t have been the same without Anupam Kher. His portrayal of Prakash Rathod exposed never-seen-before shades of a police officer.
Wake Up Sid(2009)
Anupam Kher had a very small role in Wake Up Sid, but it was enough to leave an impact. His subtle acting brought out the feelings of all fathers who love their children but hide their feelings by putting up a strict demeanour.
