International Emmy Awards: Indian actors Jim Sarah, Shefali Shah, Vir Das secure historic Best Actor nominations. The winners will be announced in a ceremony held in New York City on November 20.

The nominations for the 2023 International Emmy Awards were announced by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Monday night. Three Indian actors including Shefali Shah and Jim Sarbh secured Best Actor nominations, while Vir Das too secured a nomination in the stand up comedy special category. Shefali has been nominated for her portrayal of a cop in the hard-hitting Emmy-nominated series Delhi Crime. Jim secured the nomination for his role of Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha in the series Rocket Boys. Vir got a nod for his Netflix comedy show Landing. Notably, Ektaa Kapoor too will be honoured with the International Emmy Directorate Award for her contribution to television over the years. The 2023 International Emmy Awards ceremony will be held in New York City on November 20.

Jim Sarbh, Shefali Shah, Vir Das nominated for 2023 International Emmy Awards

Shefali Shah got nominated in the best performance by an actress category for Delhi Crime Season 2. Notably, the first season won the International Emmy for the best drama series in 2020, marking the first win for India in the category. In an official statement, Shefali said that she can’t find the right words to describe her feelings. Calling Delhi Crime a special project, the actor added that being nominated is just overwhelming. The actor is nominated alongside Connie Nielsen for the Danish series Drommeren, Billie Piper for the British show I Hate Suzie Too and Karla Souza for the Mexican series La Caida.

Jim, who secured the best performance by an actor category for playing the Father of India’s nuclear programme, Dr. Homi Jehangir Baba in Rocket Boys, said in a statement that he is overwhelmed and excited to be nominated. The actor expressed his gratitude and added that it is an honour to be recognised. Speaking about his time working on the series, Jim added that the nomination is proof of the Rocket Boys’ team’s hard work and dedication. The actor is nominated alongside Gustavo Bassani of Iosi, El Espia Arrepentido (Argentina), British actor Martin Freeman for The Responder and Jonas Karlsson for the Swedish series Nattryttarna.

Vir Das has been nominated in the stand up comedy special category alongside Derry Girls season 3 from the UK, El Encargado from Argentina and the French show Le Flambeau season 2.
