For those of you who went gaga over Baahubali 2: The Conclusion or trolled the film, we bet certain scenes and storylines in Black Panther gave you nostalgia. Call me a fake Marvel fan or whatever you want to, but Black Panther did have a couple of Baahubali references and I couldn't resist writing about it. Okoye was basically the Wakandan version of Kattappa. And this is just what I felt while watching the film, before you go all volcano on me and start trolling me, the basic storyline itself has Baahubali written all over it even though it's inspired from the comic book version.
And yes, I am also not saying that Ryan Coogler or the Studio sought inspiration from Baahubali or that SS Rajamouli tore a leaf out of the superhero comic book. It's just an observation. Black Panther was like Baahubali in a lot of ways. Both were a visual treat to the eyes, had slogans for the nation and a Kattappa. Though we have to admit that Baahubali showed how strong women in the film were, whereas Black Panther didn't give Shuri the attention she deserved. We would have loved to see more of Shuri in the film. (ALSO READ: Black Panther: From Killmonger’s scar tattoos to Okoye’s neck rings – tokens of African culture featured in the Marvel film)
Here are 3 times Chadwick Boseman's standalone superhero film reminded us of Prabhas' Baahubali.
The basic storyline
Two brothers fighting for the throne was one of the basic plots of both the films. Though situations in both films that led to the brothers fighting remains different. One felt wronged (Killmonger), the other one (You know this one) tries to make amends but fails.
Okoye = Kattappa
Okoye got me all excited when she said, "I serve the throne!" after Nakia asked her to choose between T'Chala and Erik Killmonger. I was literally resisting my "Haila Kattappa" screams in the theatre. Okoye was to T'Chala what Kattappa was to Amarendra Baahubali. She trained him, teased him when he froze in front of Nakia and remained loyal to the throne.
Wakanda Forever = Jai Mahishmati
Don't tell me you guys didn't find this similarity in both the films. Every time someone went "Wakanda Forever" in the film, I went "Jai Mahishmati" in my head. Though my loyalties lie with Wakanda because I'm more of a Marvel fan.
