After storming the television with his show Comedy Nights With Kapil, talented stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma is now gearing up to make his big Bollywood debut. The CNWK host will be seen in Abbas-Mastan's upcoming directorial venture Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu which also stars Elli Avram and Arbaaz Khan. Though the release date of the film hasn't been announced, Kapil's acting debut is expected to hit the screens this year. So professionally, things are looking good for Sharma who has turned a year older today. But his journey till now hasn't been a smooth one. In past few years, the comedian-cum-actor has courted a lot of controversies. From getting into a Twitter war to walking out of YRF's project Bank Chor which was initially his launching pad in Bollywood. While Kapil Sharma has grabbed headlines quite a few times for wrong reasons, here's looking at his 5 biggest controversies till date...
Turning down Shah Rukh Khan's offer
King Khan wanted Kapil to appear on his game show India Poochega Sabse Shaana Kaun? However, the latter rejected the proposal stating that TV channel Colors told him that he cannot shoot for any rival channel. SRK was mighty miffed and even had a showdown with Colors TV. But when we got in touch with Colors PR, they said that it was entirely Kapil's decision to turn down Shah Rukh's offer. (We were the first ones to break this news. Sharma then came out in the open and said in an interview, "I was told (by Colors) that I can’t shoot for a rival channel, especially as it’s new. And now, it’s sad that I’m being blamed. I am very hurt by the way things are projected. If the channel objected to me shooting for a rival channel, then they should have been upfront about it and not put the blame on me.” This episode went on for few days and then SRK refused to appear on Farah Khan's show Farah Ki Daawat. But what raised many eyebrows was the fact that eventually Kapil did the finale episode of Farah's show instead of Gauri Khan's hubby.
Last year, Kapil was supposed to host the opening ceremony of Celebrity Cricket League (CCL). In fact, the stand-up comedian had apparently asked for Rs 1.25 crore for the same and the organisers of the celebrity cricket tournament accepted his demand. However, Kapil walked out of the event at the last minute and left the CCL organisers in a sticky situation. And he did so because he wasn't given a vanity van. Though later Sharma apologised for his behaviour, the damage was already done at least to his reputation.
Sunil Grover walking out of CNWK
Kapil Sharma grabbed headlines once again when Gutthi aka Sunil Grover decided to leave Comedy Nights With Kapil. The latter did so because he wanted a hike but the production house and the concerned channel rejected his proposal. As a result, Sunil walked out of CNWK and started his own comedy show Mad In India with Manish Paul. While this episode shocked many, Grover was back on CNWK after few months.
Lashing out at Ajaz Khan on social media
When ex Bigg Boss contestant Ajaz Khan claimed that Kapil Sharma hasn't aired his episode of Comedy Nights With Kapil, the otherwise calm and composed Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu actor lost his cool. He took to social networking site Facebook to clear the air about the same. Kapil wrote, "Let me clear that the authority of airing any episode is in channel’s hand… I don’t own the channel…There is a process which v have to follow… Please don’t use my name for publicity (sic).”
Parting ways with Yash Raj Film
Kapil Sharma was supposed to make his big Bollywood debut with YRF's venture Bank Chor. The stand-up comedian had even started preparing for his role. That's not all! Sharma had even signed a three-film deal with Aditya Chopra's production house. But things went kaput and the CNWK host was shown the exit door by YRF. While an official statement was released by YRF claiming that both the parties decided to part ways amicably, there was more to this story. Apparently, Kapil had suggested few changes in the script and that didn't go down well with YRF. Also, it was being said that the former was delaying the project as he wanted to keep bank of episodes ready for his show and also wanted to get in shape for his debut vehicle. Whatever the reason, his association with YRF going down the hill took many by surprise.
