After much delay, Bogan starring Hansika, Arvind Swamy, Jayam Ravi will finally hit theatres today. We were excited about the cast especially since the Thani Oruvan team was getting together and that, sexy siren Hansika was the female lead. When the teaser came out, we couldn't get over Arvind-Jayam's bromance, in a way it stole all the thunder from the Hansika. It promised to be a fun, pulp fiction-ish plot but somehow the excitement around the movie dipped after the trailer was out. While we are eagerly awaiting the movie's release today, we have a few concerns about Bogan. Here they are:
The teaser was slightly confusing yet exciting. All the characters were introduced, set the mood for a pulp fiction like movie. It got us asking for more, but when the trailer came along, the confusion continued. The plot was still unclear and it was a bit of hotchpotch. And now we are more confused than excited. Anyone care to explain what Bogan is about? Some reports suggest, the trailer is based on Nicholas Cage's Face-Off but in an interview Jayam Ravi was denied this, and said the film was no way inspired from John Woo's film. Honestly, a confusing plot is as unexciting as a boring one. Also Read: Bogan teaser: Jayam Ravi-Arvind Swamy’s bromance steals Hansika’s thunder
The movie recently got itself tangled in a controversy when Lakshman the director was accused of plagiarism. A Cinematographer-turned director Anthony had lashed out at the director for stealing his story. He believed one of his assistants was responsible for the leak. He had also filed a complaint with the South Indian Film Writer's Association. The director denied this story and stated that this was one of those typical stunts to extort money. The director had requested the police to stop Anthony from spreading false stories and take action against him. The fact this movie was mired in a serious controversy like this one could affect the film. As of now, there have been no further accusations in public.
Jayam Ravi - Hansika Motwani last film received Negative reviews
The 2015 film - Romeo Juliet starring Jayam Ravi - Hansika Motwani may have been a success commercially, but the film mostly received negative reviews. Wondering if the director is testing his luck too much by getting this pair together again? With Bogan, we are hoping Hansika-Jayam will prove critics wrong ( irrespective of whether Bogan turns out commercial success or not)
Face -Off remake?
While nothing about the plot has been revealed, from the looks of the trailer, it seems to be a remake of Nicolas Cage's Face-off. The fact that it's loosely based on a remake could backfire and affect its performance at the BO. But here's what Jayam Ravi had to say about the film, “Yes, I play a cop in Bogan but there is no truth in the film being inspired by Face Off. This is something different and a first-of-its-kind in Tamil cinema packaged with elements of fun, mystery, adventure and romance.”
The film was to originally release in October, but since the team couldn't finish shooting on time, the movie was pushed to December 23rd. However, considering the demonetisation crisis the movie was further pushed to next year. Finally, So as to avoid a clash with Singam 3, the movie pushed its release date ahead by a week from Feb 9 to Feb 2. Would all these delays have fizzled out the excitement?
So do you share our concerns as well or are you hell excited about Bogan's release?
