The actor-singer who is HUGE up North, is gearing up to make his mark on Bollywood too. Read on to know more about him…
Abhishek Chaubey’s upcoming film, Udta Punjab has been attracting a lot of buzz ever since it was first announced. From bringing ex-flames Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor together in a film to who should play Kareena’s lead, a lot has kept the film in the news. And now that we know the lead opposite Kareena is Punjabi heartthrob, Diljit Dosanjh, a new wave of curiosity around him has surfaced.
Ever heard the song, Lak 28 kudi da 47 weight ? Yeah, rings a bell right? Remember a film by the name of Jatt and Juliet? Aha! Well let me introduce you to the singer-actor, Diljit Dosanjh who sang the first and acted in the second. I’m sure, those from North India, don’t need much of an introduction here, but for the rest of you here’s a little something you might like to learn about the man…
# Though he made his debut as a singer in 2000, Dosanjh had been performing on stage ever since he was a child. He often did Kirtan (religious hymns) at local Gurudwaras.
# His debut film as an actor was a super flop. However, his song from the film, Lak 28 Kudi Da was a major hit; and not just with the Punjabi’s. It also enjoyed the top position at the official Asian Download chart in UK, published by BBC.
# The actor has an amazing sense of humour which he proved way back in 2011. So Diljit was performing live at a show when he fell while doing a dance step. Someone posted the video online which went viral. As a reply to it, Diljit came out with a hilarious 30 second video of his own. Though that got him into even more controversy as people thought it was low of him to do so.
# The actor-singer was involved in a major controversy over the lyrics of one of his singles, 15 Saal, which also featured Yo Yo Honey Singh. The lyrics were said to be demeaning to women and the song was banned from releasing. But as it happens with all banned things, this one was leaked online too. The song led to protests outside his house and it ended with Diljit issuing a public apology.
# Apart from singing and acting, Diljit also does philanthropic work. He started an NGO, Sanjh Foundation, in 2013 to provide for underprivileged children and senior citizens.
