I was unaware of Dhanush's star-status down South when I saw the first poster of Dhanush's debut film Raanjhanaa. I simply knew him as the "Why this Kolaveri Di" sensation. To be honest I thought to myself, "Him? The main lead? What exactly are the makers going for here?" Yes, I admit to being shallow and making a snap judgement about the actor purely based on his looks. I had not seen him act till now. But when I did, boy did my opinion change swiftly!
Dhanush is hands-down one of the most gifted actors, and I am not talking about South Indian cinema alone. The actor proved his mettle, as he rattled off dialogues in a language alien to him with such finesse that one could hardly tell that Hindi wasn't his mother tongue! He seems like an accidental star, an unlikely hero who was somehow always meant to be great. Here are 5 reasons why I think Dhanush is not your conventional hero, but he still kicks ass...
Charming screen presence
Looks aren't everything if you have a striking personality. The same applies to Dhanush. He may not be the best looking guy around, but there is something about the actor that makes him appealing. He has romanced some of the most beautiful beauties down South and in his debut itself he was cast opposite the gorgeous Sonam Kapoor. He is not the typical handsome dude with the six-pack abs and the crazy biceps, but his affable charm more than make up for it.
Acting talent
What he probably lacks in the looks department, he more than makes up for with his acting skills. Film after film, Dhanush has proven that his love affair with the camera is going to last long. From films like Thulluvadho Ilamai and Kadhal Kondein to VIP, 3 and his latest release Maari, Dhanush has proved time and again that he can easily slink under the skin of any character he takes up.
Not taking his stardom seriously
Dhanush has no starry attitude, he doesn't indulge in pomp and show and instead of arrogance he lets his body of work do the talking. His decision to invest in a film like Kaaka Muttai shows what a humble heart he has. Dhanush not one of those actors who chases popularity by being overtly cocky. Rather, he lets his talent be the real superstar in his career.
Not living in the shadow of his father-in-law Rajnikanth
We know that Dhanush is married to Rajnikanth's daughter Aishwarya but he has never let that association become a burden on his professional career. Dhanush has carved his own identity as an actor and never lived in the shadows of his father-in-law's insane star status!
A solid Bollywood debut
While not every South Indian actor has fared too well in Bollywood's territory (even Rajnikanth failed to achieve the same heights as his contemporaries), Dhanush managed to create ripples with his debut film Raanjhanaa! In his second film Shamitabh, he landed the lead role with Amitabh Bachchan which is a dream come true for every actor! We hear that he will soon be seen in the Bollywood remake of VIP and we cannot wait for it!
We wish the hero a very happy birthday!
