Sushant Singh Rajput has compelled people to go flogging to nearby theatres, owing to his brilliant performance as detective Byomkesh Bakshy in the film with the same name. Another performer however has caught everyone’s attention; Swastika Mukherjee as the sexy Anguri Devi. Swastika made her debut with film Hemater Pakhi in the year 2003. The actress went on to star in other Bengali ventures such as Maach, Mishti and More, Saheb, Bibi, Golaam etc before landing Dibakar Banerjee’s Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! So how was she roped in for the role of Anguri Devi? ““I was reluctant about it. Then I heard that it’s Dibakar’s film. So, the excitement was there. I gave my auditions and then I was waiting for a long time. Ultimately, I stopped thinking about it, but then finally after four to five months, I got a call from them,” she informed a leading daily. Swastika got married at the tender age of 18! The actress got hitched with singer Pramit Sen, son of Sagar Sen. After being together for two years, the couple parted ways. Swastika accused Pramit of ill treating her when she was pregnant, claiming that he abused her physically and threw her out of the house. She filed a case against him for cruelty, which was dismissed later. The actress went on to date actor Parambrata Chatterjee on the sets of her film Brake Fail. At this point, she was still married to Sen and hadn’t filed for divorce. The latter charged Chatterjee for adultery. The couple officially split in the year 2010. Wow quite a roller coaster ride it has been for Swastika, eh?

The deadly attempt

The Bong beauty was alleged to have attempted suicide last year, post a heated argument with rumoured boyfriend and filmmaker Suman Mukhopadhyay. Reports suggested that the actress inflicted injuries on herself with broken beer bottles and was staying put at a hotel with Suman during that time. Her companion Mukhopadhyay was detained by the police for a span of 22 hours and the same was questioned since no complaint was registered against him.

Caught in the act

Swastika made headlines soon after her suicide attempt, this time for being involved in the case of shoplifting! The actress was reportedly caught in the act in a boutique in Singapore during an ongoing film festival which she attended with Suman. Sources suggested that the actress was seen lifting a pair of earrings worth US$225. Woah, this beauty has some dark secrets of her own!

Motherhood

The actress is a single mother with a daughter named Anwesha which she had with her ex-husband Pramit.
