The prestigious event of 65th National Film Awards is all set to happen today in Delhi in Vigyan Bhavan. While we all are excited about the event, it seems the awardees are not happy and the reason and their reason will completely make you agree with them. Like every year, this time also President will give away the awards to the winners but due to the tight schedule of President Ram Nath Kovind will attend the event just for an hour and will distribute awards only to the 11 awardees.
This thing has upset many winners, who are now planning to boycott the award ceremony. The winners have highlighted that last year President Pranab Mukherjee had distributed award to each winner personally and clicked photographs with them. As per The Print report, press secretary to the President, Ashok Malik said, “In all the award ceremonies he has attended, he gives away major awards, and takes photographs with all awardees. That has been the standard practice, which has been conveyed to the organisers well in advance.”
A filmmaker told The Print, “It was extremely disrespectful on the part of the organisers to treat the awardees this way. We were informed that we would receive the awards from the President himself, and we have brought our family members with us for the ceremony. But it was only this evening that we were told that only 11 awardees will receive them directly from the President.” The groups of winners have not yet confirmed of whether they will attend the event though they have clarified that they are unhappy with the President and not organisers. They have also clarified that they are not refusing the award but refraining themselves to attend the event. So are you guys with the winners? Share your thoughts in the comments section below...
