The much awaited 65th National Awards are out! Several promising films across multiple languages won in various categories. This year, South cinema has dominated the scene. From Baahubali to Ghazi to Tolet, to Take-off to Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum - each of these films have dominated the winner's scene! Distinct genres, distinct storytelling, novel concepts, larger than life productions have made these films deserving of this win. Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum - This dark comedy directed by Dileesh Pothan released in Jun 2017. The film is about couple and their struggles as they cope with their new life. to make matter worse, they end up being robbed of something they were planning to tell and get money. The movie on its release opened to positive reviews. The movie starred Fahadh Faasil. Nimisha Sajayan in the lead. The film won in the Original Screeplay Category, and Best Regional film in Malayalam.
Take - off - This movie is based on the 2014 event where Indian nurses were trapped in Iraq, at the time of the ISIS crisis. The film starred Parvathy, Kunchacko Goban, Fahadh Fasil in crucial roles. The movie on its release opened to rave reviews. Parvathy won the Kerala State awrad for this film and now as per the latest she won a National Award in the special mention Category.
Ghazi - Ghazi was one of the most unusual films of 2017. It is a submarine based war film, the first of its kind based on true events that took place just before the 1971 Indo-Pak war broke out. It is based on the mysterious disappearance of Pakistani Submarine - Ghazi. The story is about brave Navy soldiers who set out on a mission to destroy submarine Ghazi that was set out to destroy INS Vikrant.
Baahubali 2 - This was one of the biggest hits of 2017. Directed by SS Rajamouli, the film stars Prabhas in the lead. The movie went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters of all time. The film has won an award in the special effects category, Action Direction Category. It also won the popular film providing Wholesome entertainment.
Bhayanakam - The film is based on a chapter of the novel - Kayar. Reportedly the film talks of the youth who joined the British Army to fight in the World War II. The film centers around a postman and his wife. Director Jayaraj who helmed the project won the Award in the Best Director category.
ToLet - To let is a story based on real incidents. It's about a couple and their child. The film is set in the city of Chennai. The film is directed by Chezhian Ra. The movie won the Best Film in Tamil.
