7 surprising revelations made by Patralekhaa about her biggest career mistake and boyfriend Rajkummar Rao - watch video

In an interview with Rajeev Masand, Patralekhaa introspects about her journey in Bollywood and makes some really interesting revelations!

Patralekhaa made a stunning debut in Bollywood with Citylights (2014), but 4 years down the line, the actress is still coming up with just her third film. The actress has been written off by several critics because of her choices of films, but knowing about her talent, we have to say, she has a huge potential to succeed. And even Arjun Kapoor also feels so! After seeing an honest interview of the actress, with Rajeev Masand, Arjun tweeted, "Hey @Patralekhaa9 this journey that has been yours can never be taken away from u, u being so honest will inspire many girls to continue to battle it out holding onto their love for acting just like @RajkummarRao inspires u & many more out there. I wish u nothing but success." After hearing such good words, we were eager to know what she had said and hence, we watched the whole 14 minute long interview. And we have to say Patralekhaa bore her heart out as she introspected about her journey in Bollywood. # Bollywood is hard to crack: I am from Shillong and when I had come to Mumbai, I did not know anybody. I had come here for my college, but in hindsight, I always knew that acting is something I want pursue. But it was so tough to crack the first film, it took me years, like four to five years. I used to go for the ad auditions, keep sitting there and a couple of my ads did click and that's how I got noticed by the casting directors. # Playing a mother in your first film is not a good choice? When I got Citylights, I had nothing in my hand. At 24, to play a mother, to play a migrant, something you haven't seen, something that doesn't resonate with you, is very difficult. But now when I look back, I don't know, do you think the choice of playing a mother probably went wrong? I keep asking myself these questions because Citylights got great reviews, the critics took notice of me, I got so much love, but the work never happened. I barely got scripts and they were scripts that I wouldn't want to do at that point. It was my make or break moment because if this works, work will follow. # Love Games is her biggest carrer mistake! I went to (Mahesh) Bhatt sahab after six months and he knew what was going on. At that point, they were making only one film, which he offered. I understand it didn't work for me, but he giving me an opportunity, I am only thankful. Yes, I am talking about Love Games, which got very bad reviews and it is the film that (hurt my career the most). When I was reading the script, I had an idea, but your survival instincts make you do things.

# Lack of mentor: I had no mentor. You need someone to guide you when you are from a different planet altogether. I cannot ask my mum or dad to help me. They wouldn't understand. It was really tough after Love Games! I didn't know whom to go to, what can anybody do about it?

# Jealous of boyfriend - Rajkummar's success? A lot of people do ask me this question, but the beautiful thing about us is that it (the pressure and jealousy) hasn’t yet seeped into our relationship. He has been the biggest support that I could ask for and you know him, he is one of the most amazing human being I have come across. I must tell you this, while Love Games was happening, is when he lost his mum. It was a terrible time for both of us and that’s where we connected the most and we were there for each other. And seeing him do that well, it instills more hope and faith in me. This man, he does not have time, he is always running against it, but that’s what inspires me. So when I met Raj a couple of years back, he inspired me and after so many years, he still inspires me. He has given me so much respect and that’s why we have lasted through so many ups and downs. # The real reason why actors don't open up about their relationships: I must tell you this, since Raj is the more famous person in the relationship now, somewhere I have realised why actors don't come out in the open about their relationships. It is because it just dilutes the small work that the other person has done. I have had my shares of ups and downs, my share of struggles but because my boyfriend is such a famous boyfriend, it dilutes everything. But saying that, I am so proud of it, I am so happy. It is just gratitude that I know this man.

# Will never take help from Rajkummar: Five years down the line, Raj might be in that position (to help me in my career), but I don’t want to take it. It might be one film that will work or may not work, but it will be out there for people to judge. And I would never want to put him in such a position. Actually a lot of people ask me, ‘Your boyfriend is so famous, why don’t you tell him (to get you some work)?’ I will never, in my life, want to ask him, ‘You know what, let’s do something together or get me some work.’ It’s going to just crush my self respect.
