Late veteran actor Rishi Kapoor had no qualms in expressing openly to the media that he was not close to his son Ranbir Kapoor as it should have been. He had said that there was no friendship between the two because of his relationship with his father and legendary actor Raj Kapoor. Ranbir had also spoken about his strained relationship with his father in his earlier interviews. And while there was certainly a big communication gap between the two, Abhishek Bachchan has now revealed that Rishi Kapoor used to follow a gossip website to see what his son Ranbir was upto.
Abhishek, who has worked with Rishi Kapoor in Delhi 6 and All Is Well, said that when they were shooting in Shimla, he had found Kapoor sitting in front of a computer in his room. "I walked into the room and he was in his lungi, he had these small glasses and he was on his computer. I found that very cute from behind, this visual,” he told Film Companion in an interview.
When Abhishek asked Kapoor what he was doing, he found that the veteran actor was reading a celebrity gossip website to keep a tab on Ranbir. "The only way I can tell what Ranbir is doing," Kapoor said. "And I am like, ‘This guy, he is amazing! He had no filter. He would just say it.’ So, he was following (the website) to know what Ranbir was up to. I found that so sweet,” Abhishek added.
During his early days in Bollywood, Ranbir had shocked everyone when he had revealed that he was closer to his mother, Neetu Kapoor, than his father. He has said that Rishi Kapoor had modelled his relationship with him the same way the veteran actor had shared one with his father, legendary actor-director Raj Kapoor.
Rishi Kapoor was very upset when Ranbir had decided to leave his family and move in with then girlfriend Katrina Kaif. And it was this time when the former had opened up about his equation with Ranbir. He also expressed regret at not being friends with Ranbir.
With time, the gap between father and son narrowed, and the two had gotten close to each other after Rishi Kapoor was diagnosed with cancer in September 2018. By that time, Rishi had also acknowledged Ranbir's relationship with Alia Bhatt.
