Adil is very upset about the unfortunate incident and bring patriarchy in the mix
God forbid, if a condom commercial comes on TV while we are watching a Sooraj Barjatya drama with family because sex is still such a taboo in India. So it should not come as a surprise when a semi nude scene of an Indian actress is spreading like wildfire on social media. That scene may hold great importance to a film which talks about women empowerment, but for a lot of Indians it was equivalent to a scandalising MMS from an actress’ green room. Radhika Apte’s love making scene from the internationally acclaimed film Parched has gone viral. Parched, directed by Leena Yadav and co-produced by Ajay Devgn, has not yet released in India, follows the lives of three ordinary women who begin to break free from centuries-old traditions. The scene in question features Adil Hussain with Radhika. While talking to news daily, Adil expressed his disappointment over the entire incident. He raises some serious questions against the mindset behind the leak, and makes a lot of sense.
While talking to a leading daily, Adil said, “I learnt about it yesterday from Google alert and it felt bizarre in the beginning. In fact, it felt very weird. It shows how sexually obsessed a lot of people in our society are. You leak only the sex scene and no other beautiful scenes from the film. It only shows that we are extremely obsessed about sex and yet we don’t want to talk about it.” Talking how sex is still a taboo in this country he says “We shun it, shove it under the carpet and don’t want to show it to people”
The actor is also pretty sure that the video was leaked by a man, and moreover an Indian man. “The most interesting aspect is that the leaked video is titled as Radhika Apte sex scene and not as Adil Hussain sex scene. That’s because a man doing it is just another matter whereas when a woman does it, it does matter. It is only then when it becomes a sex scene.” said Adil.
Apart from this scene between Radhika and Adil, another scene that has nude shots of the actress is being talked about just as much. This scene features Tannishtha Chatterjee with Radhika, and seems like her character is nursing her wounds.Parched won the Best Indie Film Award at the recent Indian Film Festival of Melbourne but we are hardly talking about it. Clearly the country’s audience has its priorities set straight.
