So whoever thought breakups are all about tearing your souls apart and crying over the sad ending, definitely gotta check this out. Yes! The much awaited 'Break Up Song' from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is literally here to give every heartbroken soul a goddamn reason to feel happy about. Trust me, it certainly cannot any better than this. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma as Ayan and Alizeh, this song exactly shows you how one can actually celebrate their breakup without having a bit of a regret. I mean, few seconds into the song and you would be confused if Ayan and Alizeh are celebrating breakup or celebrating friendship, love. But don't be mistaken for this song clarifies that Ranbir and Anushka are not lovers but just BFFs who are simply enjoying the little joys of life no matter if love exists or no. However, the highlight of this song has to be the Jab We Met portion where Badshah raps the 'Geet aka Kareena Kapoor's' solution of getting over a breakup. In the sense, remember that iconic line from Jab We Met where Kareena helps Shahid Kapoor to get over his ex in the film saying, "Photo Jala De, Teri Maa Ki" Similar to that, Ranbir here raps to Anushka saying, "Photo jalake gaali de, karde teri maa ki aankh" Oh! We're sure Kareena and Shahid are going to love this little ode paid to them through this Breakup Anthem Of The Year.
Overall, The Break Up Song from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil isn't something out of the box. It's pretty average with a slight of Shammi Kapoor feels. But the fact that it's so lively, energetic and celebrates heartbreak will make everyone hook to this track and play it on loop. Add to that, the lyrics are so easy and catchy that it's like having a conversation or say ranting about your ex without really being depressed or sad. Kudos to Badshah and of course Arijit Singh who have taken this track to an all new level.
