It is usually after a film releases that we start talking about the records it has broken. More often than not it is the money the movie has made that becomes the talking point but the case with Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor's upcoming romantic film, Half Girlfriend, is different. The film has managed to make a record even before its release. One of the songs from the film is going to set a new record for being the longest ditty to ever feature in a movie. Now, given Bollywood's reputation of being an industry that loves its song-and-dance routine, it is hardly a surprise that the makers have decided to include such a long, record-breaking song in their narrative.
According to a report by SpotboyE, Mithoon is at the helm of the song that will run for a total of 18 minutes. Whoa...that sounds like one long song. The report claims, "Mithoon has an 18-minute-long song in the film which happens to be the theme of the movie. The song is written by Galliyan lyricist Manoj Muntashir. The song will be played at a crucial juncture of the film. The lyrics of the song are also extremely beautiful and Manojji had written these poems at a very early age. He had recited these poems at one of the concerts and director Mohit Suri heard them. Thus he approached Manoji and Mithoon and thought that they would make an amazing song for the film."
Back in 2012, there were reports that Toshi Sabri, along with his brother, had helmed a 21-minute long song for Naseeruddin Shah's Mastaan. But neither the song nor the film saw the light of the day. Then there was a 13-minute long song in Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, but it was also cut short in the final cut. Now to wait and watch if the long song from Half Girlfriend manages to escape the wrath of the film editor.
Interestingly, the lengthiest song in a Hindi film so far was the 11-minute Qawwalli, Humein to loot liya mil ke husn waalon ne from the 1958 film Al Hilal, produced by Shree Ram Bohra, grandfather of Sunil Bohra. He was also the one who was producing Mastaan.
