It's time to find out who made the most noise at the box office...
It's necessary to know how films fare at the box office to get a clearer idea of what worked, works and may work in the future. Box office collections expose a lot of trends. This year too we saw some really good films and some negligible ones to hitting the theatres. Audiences made their choices and we must say they are wise ones. Based on that, we have five films which registered good numbers at the box office in their opening weekend. And they are...
Opening weekend: 52.35 cr
It is difficult to accept that a film which is already underperforming could be the highest opening weekend grosser of 2016. Shah Rukh Khan's Fan was that. In three days, it earned 52. 35 cr which is the best this year so far. It got mixed to good reviews but the slump later proved it couldn't interest the fans much, to whom it was dedicated to. A lot of conspiracy theories are doing the rounds on what might have happened, but the fact of the matter is, the film has failed and how! You don't expect such numbers from a Shah Rukh Khan film.
Opening weekend: 44.3 cr
With 44.3 cr, Airlift put up great numbers on its first weekend at the box office. Akshay Kumar's convincing portrayal of Ranjit Katyal and the execution of a real life story have made the audience to flock the theatres. It is one of the most successful films of 2016 with 127. 8 cr as its lifetime income. Content proved to be the clincher here.
Opening weekend: 35.58 cr
It's an incredible achievement to come right after superstars since decades like Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar on the number tally and Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor can happily rejoice. Their film Baaghi has earned 38.58 crore in three days only. That's a massive achievement we must say!
4. Kapoor & Sons
Opening weekend: 26.35 cr
A heartwarming tale with an emotional twist, Kapoor & Sons was on everyone's must-watch list from the day the trailer of the film was released. It was so relatable and real that we knew it has riches written all over it. That's exactly what happened. Sidharth Malhotra's helplessness, Fawad Khan's family shattering secret and Alia Bhatt's cuteness warmed their hearts so much that it earned 26.35 cr on its first weekend. Again, content took over!
5. Ki & Ka
Opening weekend: 25.23 cr
R. Balki tried role reversal and it worked like gold. Kareena Kapoor's corporate working woman character and Arjun Kapoor's convincing house husband act made things really comfortable for the film to earn big bucks at the box office. In three days, it earned 25. 23 cr. It was an experiment and it paid off! This means audience is open to newness, you should know how to deliver it.
