Here comes the Khiladi of box office...
Bollywood is all about loving the Khans. But often what we don't observe is the rise and rise of Khiladi Akshay Kumar. This man became a superstar completely on his own. He did all kinds of movies. In a time when only Khan films made money, he continued to give successes. Even when he didn't, the number of films in his kitty never dwindled. Today, he is one of the most bankable actors of the industry because he is perhaps the only one who deliver 3-4 films every year and all of them gross almost 80 cr at the box office. Recently, he added another feather to his cap when he started doing more qualitative films without affecting his number of releases per year. In fact, he has lodged four of his films in the 100 crore club and here's the list...
Box office: 106.cr
Akshay's comic timing was long established with Hera Pheri. We still laugh at those jokes whenever the film is on air. His flair for comedy is completely different from any other hero of his stature. He keeps it subtle and innocent. No wonder that the first movie to enter the 100 cr club for him was Housefull 2. A comedy of a lot of errors, the film was a riot! Many argue Housefull was better than the sequel, but numbers don't lie!
Box office: 133.25 cr
Akshay's biggest draw till recently was action. Later, his comedy made us go ROFL. So what happens when you club both? You get a 100 cr film! Rowdy Rathore erupted at the box office upon release. His double act got so much appreciation from the audience that it soon entered the 100 cr club. The music caught up so well it only boosted the collections.
Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty
Box office: 112.18 cr
It's a remake of a hit Tamil film Thuppakki which had superstar of the South Vijay in it. A do-over of a superhit film is bound to be a hit and that's what Holiday was. Their was more brain than brawn and we simply loved it. Quite obviously, the film collected good returns at the box office.
Box office: 102.76 cr (Still running)
Airlift became the first 100 crore film of 2016 and we are pretty sure Akshay is really proud of its collection. It's a film made with an intention to let people know how a historic mass evacuation was carried off by India in 1990 which is yet to be paralleled by any. The film opened well as was expected because a film on the nation during Republic day is a clincher. Admirably, it continued to earn a lot of money and is already a very profitable film.
