In a piece of shocking news, renowned Bollywood action director and father of actor Ajay Devgn has died of cardiac arrest this morning. The stunt and action choreographer and film director had complained of breathlessness and was admitted to Surya hospital, Santa Cruz. Unfortunately, he suffered a heart attack and succumbed to it. Ajay Devgn had cancelled a few interviews during the promotion of his film, De De Pyaar De, in the last 15 days, citing his father’s failing health. Reportedly, his last rites and funeral services will be held at Vile Parle West crematorium today at 6:00 Pm.
Born into the Devgan family in Amritsar, he is married to Veena and has four children with her, including Ajay and director Anil Devgan. He had earlier worked in films like Dilwale (1994), Himmatwala (1983), Shahenshaah (1988) amongst many. He has also choreographed fight and action scenes for as many as 80 Hindi films. In fact, hHe has also directed a film – Hindustan Ki Kasam (1999).
Earlier, in an interview with Hindustan Times, Ajay had opened up about his childhood and had said, "However indulgent I might be, I draw some lines. My upbringing at home has been typically very middle-class. Me having a very big house and everything doesn’t change things. I still live in a joint family; my parents stay with me. The kind of upbringing my kids have got is also similar. They know what’s right and wrong." Even wife and actress Kajol has been known to be a doting daughter-in-law. She has always been by their side and taken care of the in-laws like her own folks.
On the work front, Ajay's De De Pyaar De has managed to perform very well at the ticket windows. Meanwhile, he is currently shooting for his upcoming production venture Tanhaji: The Unsung Hero, which marks the directorial debut of Om Raut. Made on the lavish budget of Rs 150 crore, it is one of the ambitious projects of Ajay Devgn. The period film also stars Kajol along with Saif Ali Khan, who will play the lead antagonist in the venture. Tanhaji: The Unsung Hero is scheduled to hit the screens on January 10, 2020, and will lock horns with Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak, which is directed by Raazi helmer Meghna Gulzar.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Devgn family at this trying time. May his soul rest in peace.
