The Joker actor celebrates his 45th birthday today
Born on September 9, 1967, Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia aka Akshay Kumar is the ultimate macho actor who has been ruling the Bollywood box office with his incredible charm for the past two decades. Though placed in the industry as a fine action hero, Akshay has established himself well in the comedy genre with his popular flicks. He was born in Amritar, Punjab, to an Army officer and a homemaker mother. Raised in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk neighborhood before moving to Mumbai, Akki obtained a black belt in Taekwando in the Far East. At a fairly young age Akshay was in Bangkok, Thailand, where he worked as chef and waiter. He practiced and sharpened his martial arts skills in the Far East Asian city. Akshay Kumar came to the island city of Mumbai to try his luck at modeling. After a couple of assignments the lucky lad was spotted by producer Pramod Chakravarthy for the 1992 film Deedar. He was then signed on for films like Saugandh and Khiladi. His 1994 action movies Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Mohra were among the highest grossers of those years and gave Akshay a solid standing in Bollywood. He continued acting in the Khiladi series. In fact, productions like Sabse Bada Khiladi and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi made Akshay a fast emerging star. Akshay slid upwards from stardom to super-stardom after his much-appreciated comic role in the 2000 film Hera Pheri co-starring Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty. Akshay then starred in a string of comedies including Awara Paagal Deewana, Mujhse Shadi Karoge, Garam Masala and Bhaagam Bhaag. Kumar won critical acclaim for his role in Khaki. But he featured mainly in commercially successful hits like Singh Is Kingg, Welcome, Namastey London and Housefull, as well as in Patiala House, Desi Boyz and many more. This year Akshay made his return to the action genre after seven years by doing Prabhu Deva's Rowdy Rathore. The film collected more than Rs 100 crore at the box office. But his Joker could not show any magic at the BO.
