Director Shankar's 2.0 has turned out to be the new Baahubali at the box office. The sci-fi venture has set a new benchmark at the ticket windows and has already become the highest Tamil grosser with a whopping collection of Rs 520 crore at the global box office. It has become the third film of the year to cross the Rs 500 crore mark after Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju and Ranveer Singh's Padmaavat. Looking at the current scenario, we are expecting 2.0 to surpass the lifetime business of Sanjay Dutt biopic (Rs 542 crore) by today to become the second highest worldwide grosser of the year.
If the film continues to hold well in its second week, it will beat Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat (Rs 560 crore) to become the highest grosser of 2018. 2.0 has been made on a budget of Rs 600 crore. Rajinikanth plays a scientist and a robot. He also appears as a microbot, dubbed 3.0, which was a major surprise element in the film.
A sequel to Shankar's 2010 blockbuster Enthiran, 2.0 has been produced by Lyca Productions and was released in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi on November 29. Earlier this week, Lyca Productions revealed that the film grossed a whopping Rs 400 crore in its opening weekend worldwide. Apart from the lead cast, the film also stars Amy Jackson, Adil Hussain and Sudhanshu Pandey in pivotal roles.
