Akshay Kumar has announced his next film, and from the details shared so far, it looks epic. Titled Mogul, the movie is based on the life of Gulshan Kumar - the man who changed the scene in Indian music industry. The first look was released in the morning and sent a wave of excitement amongst fans. While the movie is being touted as Gulshan Kumar's biopic, we can't help but notice similarities with TV series Empire.
The plot of Empire also revolves around a music mogul, much like the outline of Mogul. Ths series is currently in its third season and has been renewed for the fourth. Terrence Howard plays Lucious Lyon, a former drug dealer-turned-hip hop mogul and CEO of Empire Entertainment. Now, that is one major dissimilarity between the plots. Before his journey in the music industry, Gulshan worked at his father's juice shop. Also, if you look at it, the vibe that the title of the series, and the movie, gives is pretty much the same. You imagine someone very powerful as soon as you hear Mogul or Empire.
Not just the plot, the elements of the poster are similar too. The shade of golden that dominates the poster of Mogul also is the primary colour used in the logo and posters of Empire. Now, that seems too much to be a mere co-incidence. Also Read: Akshay Kumar to play Gulshan Kumar in Mogul – first look out!
With Mogul, Akshay Kumar has his roster full for 2018. He also has Neeraj Pandey's Crack and Reema Kagti's Gold releasing in 2018. If any delay occurs at all, Twinkle Khanna's production venture Pad Man will also release next year only.
Mogul will be directed by Jolly LLB 2 director Subhash Kapoor, and is being produced by late Gulshan Kumar's wife.
