Ali Zafar was one of the few celebs who had come out and spoken up in defence of Mahira Khan when she was being slut-shamed on the internet by trolls over leaked pictures of her smoking with Ranbir Kapoor. Everything - right from her dress to her smoking were being questioned, while at the same time no one was batting an eyelid over Ranbir's presence there.
After Parineeti Chopra had spoken up in the actress' defence, Ali tweeted in her support too. Ali posted a picture that read, “What has happened to us? Have we lost all sense of sensibility? Must we choose gossip, intrigue and the self-appointed right of judgement over restrain, grace, tolerance and compassion? Every woman has the right to make her own choices in life (as long as she is not hurting anyone else) just like we men do. How we react defines our own character. Choose wisely, for we SHALL be judged!” Now that’s how you give it back to trolls! Check out the tweet right here...
Now, in an interview with Gulf News, the actor further explained his stance. And honestly, what he said made a lot of sense. When asked what had made him support her, he said, "For so long in this part of the world we have suppressed women in general — especially us men who think that we are superior and women are our slaves. We feel we can do whatever we want them. We own them."
He further added, "Ultimately, it’s her life. I do understand that when being in the limelight one needs to be more careful about various things. But at the end of the day we are all human. We all make mistakes and we need to be more compassionate and forgiving towards one another."
He summed up the topic on a humble note when he said, "I don’t think this is something great that I have done. These are just the basics. Our fundamentals and our basics are so wrongly placed that its taking time for us to get back to the right."
Well, that's being modest and we love Ali for that!
