The Central Board of Film Certification cancelled the screening of Alia Bhatt- Randeep Hooda starrer, Highway which was to be aired on Doordarshan. And this was despite the fact that the makers had submitted a clean cut for screening. Apparently, only films with a U certificate can be aired on the national channel as it is a family channel. Since the film passed with a U/A certification, it would not be allowed to air on the channel.
Reportedly, some members were of the opinion that since the film projects child abuse, it is not fit for children to view. Thankfully not all members think the same way! There were some who argued that it was important for everyone, children in particular, to see these thing in order to spread awareness about the existence of such evils.
Senior Board member, Nandini Sardesai, who is in support of the film being aired, said to a leading tabloid, "I am aghast and shocked. And I'm fighting for it. The film makes a very vital point and children should watch the film to become more concious about their surroundings, about things like good touch and bad touch."
As of now, the Television fate of the film depends on the Chairperson of the Board. Let's see what he decides!
