...though we are not sure whether he understands the meaning of a review!
Amaal Mallik, you so disappointed us, just like the movie, Sarbjit!
The music composer who has given some fine melodies in films like Hero, Azhar, Kapoor & Sons, Baaghi, had composed one song, Salamat, for this week's release Sarbjit. Sarbjit is a biopic of Sarbjit Singh, a Punjabi farmer who accidentally crossed border to Pakistan, got arrested and was labelled a spy. Having spent 23 years in jail, he was later killed by the inmates of the jail. This tragic tale was definitely worth telling on screen, however the melodramatic approach of the director and the makers' insistence on focussing on Aishwarya Rai, instead of Randeep Hooda, makes Sarbjit a tedious watch!
The normally quiet music director took to Facebook to vent his ire against critics who have been giving negative reviews to Sarbjit.
This was kind of strange, since the post came on Thursday before proper reviews started pouring in. It's like he knew what to expect by then.
Anyways, he called all those critics who gave a negative review as 'jealous' and have 'vague reasons' for lambasting the film. he claimed that most of the reviewers haven't watched the film! He also said he has never seen so much angst against the actors (In case, if he had read any review, he would have realised the praises were solely confined to the actors).
Here's his FB post...
To Amaal Mallik, as a critic, I have only this to say, when we praise a 'good' movie, like say Neerja or a Kapoor & Sons, or even your soulful compositions, I hope you still feel that we have vague reasons and don't know our job! Just because a film is made on a real-life tragic story, doesn't mean it has to be a good one! To understand this better, watch Uwe Boll's Auschwitz!
BTW, I have seen Sarbjit, and here is my 'jealous' review...
