The producer says he feels the pressure of fighting with piracy
In the recent times, the film industry has faced a monster. Online piracy and leaks of films have shaken the B-town many times. The examples ranging from Manjhi – The Mountain Man to the recent ones like Udta Punjab and Great Grand Masti. Recently CBFC stopped accepting copies of films on DVDs to avoid being accused for leaks. In a time like this, it is obvious that filmmakers feel the pressure regarding the leak. Anand L Rai, popular for Tanu Weds Manu, Raanjhanaa is coming out with his next production venture Happy Bhag Jayegi feels the same pressure.
At the launch of the song Happy Oye in Lucknow, the producer director talked to media about the same. He said that he has a plan in place to protect his film from any such leak. He also feels that the entire industry goes through the pressure of piracy. We hope Anand’s efforts don’t go in vain.
Happy Bhag Jayegi stars Diana Penty, Abhay Deol, Ali Fazal and Jimmy Sheirgill in lead roles. The film is all set to release on August 19.
Recently, the team of film Great Grand Masti, which was leaked before its release, said that the copy they submitted to the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) was tampered with. In a press conference, director Indra Kumar said: "When the Cyber Cell officials went there (FCAT), they found that someone had opened the seal and put it in an album like a folder and they sealed that."
Weeks before that it was discovered that Abhishek Chaubey-directed film Udta Punjab was available on torrent sites for illegal download. However, soon the download links were “removed due to a copyright complaint”. According to the snapshots from the leaked copy – available on multiple online platforms – it was seemingly the copy submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It even featured scenes that the Censor Board had objected to.
