Anil Kapoor's contribution to Indian cinema is unparalleled. We all have one of his films on our individual all-time favourite lists. If not, I guess you are born after the '90s. Well, there could have been one more awesome movie in his filmography. But the actor turned out the chance to star in the superhit, Chandni, for a very specific reason.
Anil Kapoor was offered a role in Sridevi starrer Chandni by Yash Chopra. But, the role eventually went to Rishi Kapoor. In his latest interview with Mid-Day, Anil revealed, I had said no to Chandni, because I didn't want to sit in a wheelchair." You see in the second half of the film, the character that the actor was offered becomes paraplegic.
Anil further explained, "I was just not in a frame of mind to sit in a wheelchair through an entire film. I was, in fact, one of the first people to call Yashji and tell him, "Picture hit hai!" He couldn't believe it. I had done two films [Mashaal, Vijay] with him, and both hadn't done well,"
Though Anil is not being unreasonable. In fact, the reason for turning down Chandni comes from a very personal experience for Anil. Just before the film, he had been in an accident, which left him bedridden for weeks. "I'd had an accident, and was bedridden, nursing my leg, for two-and-half months. It was a turning point in my life. I was running fast, but going nowhere. I just wanted films, one after other - doing films that I didn't care much for,"
Anil explained that his accident had changed his outlook towards picking films and he became more conscious of what role he was doing.
