The Punjab government just made a shocking announcement...
Arshad Warsi and Aditi Rao Hydari's The Legend of Michael Mishra is all set to release all across India tomorrow, however looks like the film won't be showcased in Punjab. The Punjab government announced a ban on the screening of this comic film a while back.A spokesman of the state government revealed in a press statement, "The Punjab government has suspended the exhibition of the film with immediate effect for two months and during such suspension, it shall be deemed to be uncertified film in the state. The decision was taken keeping in view the prevailing strong resentment among the Valmiki community about some objectionable references to Maharishi Valmiki in the film."
The Legend of Michael Mishra is an edgy madcap comedy with a romantic tale at the core, but looks like the Punjab government hasn't liked a few jokes in the film. As the spokesperson added, "The decision was aimed at keeping intact the hard earned peace and social harmony in the state as the screening of this film may invite massive protests."
However, this is not the first time a film has been banned in Punjab. Recently films like Aarakshan, Sadda Haq, MSG: The Messenger of God, MSG-2 The Messenger, Nanak Shah Fakir, Santa Banta Pvt Ltd and
was banned for some or the other reasons. Udta Punjab
The film also stars Boman Irani and son Kayoze Irani. They will be sharing screen space for the first time. The film is directed by Manish Jha and is being presented by Ponty Chadha's Wave cinemas and produced by Kishor Arora and Shareen Mantri Kedia of Eyecandy Films.
