Bollywoodlife met up with two powerhouses of talent on Saturday - Atul Kulkarni and Kay Kay Menon. The two have have always known to star in unconventional stories. and now they are coming together again in yet another intriguing historical tale - The Ghazi Attack. It's the story of how a Pakistani submarine set to out to destroy the one and only Indian aircraft carrier - INS Vikrant. The classified mission took place just before the war broke out in 1971. In reference to this movie and all topics surrounding it, the two actors aired their views unapologetically.
Considering the film's theme is based on nationalism Bollywoodlife asked them their views on the subject - "I don't think we set off to make something that is patriotic. Sankalp ( the director) saw an interesting story which happens to be a war story. That is why probably we see all these aspects of patriotism. He is trying to tell us a very interesting story which is based on facts, which hasn't been told before. And it's very important historically"....He went on to elaborate on The Ghazi Attack. He then reiterated, that it was the story Sankalp wanted to tell, whatever followed happened subsequently, but there was no deliberate intention to make it patriotic. Talking about the same subject, there was one such incident that showedKay kay Menon's patriotic side.It was learnt that since Kay Kay Menon was playing a Sikh, he didn't light a cigarette out of respect for Sikh culture, despite being a heavy smoker.
When the two were asked if any specific issue needs to be addressed in films, both unanimously said, "No." Because "It is a filmmaker's' choice to tell a story. It can never be the other way." Atul Kulkarni went on to categorically state, if the filmmaker goes with the intention of choosing a particular issue and making a film on it, it wouldn't work for sure. While Rana and taapsee seemed to be in sync, these two unconventional actors also seemed in Tandem. Both of shared the same views and whatever one spoke, the other silently agreed. Now that's a bond you need to take notice of. Check out the video.
