The teaser was unveiled during the Extraa Innings of IPL finals.
Biopics are the current favourites among the film-makers, with the success of Mary Kom, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Pan Singh Tomar. Now Ekta Kapoor, who previously was involved in the making of Dirty Picture that was loosely inspired from the life of the sex siren Silk Smitha, is involved in another biopic. This time it will be made on the former Indian captain, Mohammed Azharuddin, who was banned from all forms of cricket for his involvement in match-fixing and later became a Congress MP.
Emraan Hashmi will be playing Azhar in the movie, that is also titled Azhar. The movie will be directed by Tony D'Souza, who previously helmed Blue and Naam Hai Boss. The movie is scheduled to release nest year.
Earlier today, Emraan had appeared in the Extraa Innings pre-match sessions of the IPL finals, where he launched the first teaser of the film. Since the film is still to begin shooting, it was very short. But whatever it showed, gave us a clear picture of what to expect in the movie.
It begins with Emraan Hashmi as Azhar coming out of the pavilion to bat, looking quite tense. As he walks out, on side of his, there are cheering and screaming fans shouting out his name and clamoring to touch him. But on the other side there are placards and effigies of him being burnt - a clear indicator towards his match fixing allegations. With two factions of audience shouting out his name in two different context, he enters to the field.
Though we saw very little of Emraan Hashmi in here, he certainly has mimed the former captain's lopsided walking style perfectly, as well as adapted certain trademark quirks of his looks, like those little amulets on his neck. Though, the film will only release next year, the teaser ends with a promise that we are to see something really interesting when it is finally brought to our screens.
