accolades for its brilliant storytelling. This talented filmmaker who has ventured into Bollywood was impressed with the script of Banjo and that’s the reason why he decided to enter Bollywood. So when BollywoodLife had a chance to interview this talented filmmaker we couldn’t stop from asking him the question about remaking his popular Marathi movies in B town. And why not? The Marathi film industry today has been experimenting with unique concepts and innovative topics so remake shall be a good change in the industry. Right from Natrang to Sairat, there have been brilliant movies made recently.
When we asked Ravi what he feels about remaking his work in Hindi, the director was initially very skeptical. He said, “Balgandharva will be difficult to remake since it is more of the Maharashtrian culture but I may. However I think why should I remake the same old movie. I have already experienced what working is like on that subject and topic once. So I will rather try attempting something new and not the same old stuff.” But a movie like Balgandharva is unique and has not yet been made in Bollywood, so if some other director wants to remake his film, which actor will he suggest? According to the director, Ranbir will be perfect for this role.
Balgandharva is a biopic on Marathi singer and stage actor Narayan Shripad Rajhans showing his journey from rags to riches. The real reason why he was able to win accolades during those times was because he did not hesitate to play a woman onscreen. The era was such that females were not allowed to act or participate in any stage performances and as a result males only had to enact female characters. But Balgandharva as a character looked so graceful that it was impossible to distinguish him from a real women. The film further highlights the ride for this actor on how he loses his stardom due to an extra marital affair and blind faith. The movie was an instant hit with the audiences and we are sure it will click with the Bollywood viewers too.
We would love to see Ranbir Kapoor playing such a different role onscreen. We are sure the Rockstar actor too will love playing the role as it is extremely challenging. What do you think? Post your thoughts in comments section below!
