Barkha Bisht is finally out of Naamkarann. While it was a known fact that the actress’ character Asha would be bumped off eventually, Barkha’s ouster has come earlier than expected. As a seasoned actress, she took it calmly though it left her little shocked. She plays the role of Asha, who is the mother of the illegitimate Avni played by Arsheen Namdaar. It seems in the coming tracks, Dayawanti (Reema Lagoo) will send goons to kill Asha to prevent Avni from making her film that will expose her family before the world. Avni is the illegitimate child of Dayawanti’s son, Ashish (Viraf Patel) whom she wants to get married to Neela played by Sayantani Ghosh.
In a statement to The Times of India, Barkha said, “I didn't expect Asha to be bumped off, as she is one of the core characters of the show. The producers informed me the moment they finalised the track, and it doesn't seem to be an overnight decision. Every two weeks, we were trying something new to up the ratings.” It is no secret that TRPs have been a huge issue for the show. While Naamkarann is doing well in the UK, the show has failed to garner eyeballs in India. There were talks of the show going off air a month back but then the makers brought about drastic changes. From the tale of Ashish and Asha, the focus shifted on Avni and her struggle. Barkha sees her exit quite objectively. She further told the paper, “I am practical and understand the pulse of the industry. I am sad that I am out of a show, which I have been part of since its inception. I think they decided to end my character because of its shock value. Had it been any other character, the level of shock would have been lesser."
Rumours were also doing the rounds that Barkha did not share a very friendly equation with Arsheen Namdaar. Barkha also clarified on it and stated that she knew that Naamkarann was from Avni’s perspective. She said, “The story was always from Avni's perspective and hence, she was the protagonist. But that doesn't mean that I was any less important. A 10-year-old can't make me feel insecure. As far as not getting along with her is concerned, you don't connect with all your colleagues; it's just that I had a better equation with other people. Today's children are extremely professional and mature for their age because of the exposure they get. My love, affection and patience are only for my daughter.”
