Fans and critics around the world have spoken, Spider-Man: Homecoming is the film they were waiting for all these years. Tom Holland who was already loved by everyone for his performance in Captain America: Civil War is already being hailed as one of the best Spider-Man ever. Just like every Marvel film, Spider-Man: Homecoming was high on easter eggs and other film references. But what surprised me was the references and throwbacks in the film, not necessarily of MCU superheroes but DCEU as well. The references ranged from digs, homage to throwbacks etc.
So here are 5 superheroes references Spider-Man: Homecoming possessed:
In one of the early scenes in the film, when Flash Thompson, a classmate as well as often bully of Peter Parker, is told by the teacher, when he answers a question in a jiffy though incorrectly, being fast doesn't mean you are right. I am assuming the pun was intended because, DCEU's Scarlet Speedster is termed as the fastest man alive.
In another scene when Spider-Man is following The Vulture he steals Flash's car but before that he speaks to him in that deep growling voice made famous by Christian Bale's Batman, to get what he wants. In the film when Spider-Man goes to interrogate Donald Glover's Aaron Davis, his A.I. activates the interrogation mode and that's when the voice that comes out of his suit reminded me of Green Arrow's from TV series Arrow.
After a goof up when Tony Stark is disappointed with Spidey, Spidey recalls his fight in civil war and especially against Captain America. Tony is quick to put Spidey in his place and to make him understand how he is still not ready, he says, "If he wanted he'd have taken you down easily." This clearly reminded me of that (not so)iconic face-off between Batman and Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, where Superman says, "If I wanted you'd be dead already." Thor and Hulk
Everyone is aware of how Spider-Man was the major highlight of Civil War but he doesn't get to meet Thor and The Hulk. So in a scene in the film, when Spidey comes across the ATM robbers disguised as The Avengers, he says to Thor and Hulk about nice meeting them finally, referring to their absence in Civil War.
Let us know what ya'll think of the above observations. Are you on the same page as we are or are we reading too much between the lines...
