AndhaDhun featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu and Radhika Apte earned critical acclaim as commercial success. The movie turned out to be one of the surprise hits of 2018. AndhaDhun bagged three National awards this year which included the Best Hindi Film Award, Best Actor Award and an Award for screenplay writer. The movie was also felicitated at the Indian Film Festival Of Melbourne recently. And filmmaker Sriram Raghavan also won the best director award for this project. However, things weren't easy for him before Ayushmann Khurrana come aboard as the lead actor for AndhaDhun. Several big actors from the industry refused to take up the film as they didn't buy into Sriram's vision and didn't see the commercial merit in AndhaDhun.
"A lot of big actors said no to the film. They couldn’t understand how the movie would pan out. At the time, we didn’t have the complete script. And I was like, if they can’t understand it now, then it’s fine because they won’t suit the role," Sriram said during a chat at IFFM. Ayushmann Khurrana's name never came across the filmmaker's mind until the actor himself texted him.
In an Indian Express interview, Ayushmann had revealed, "I had gotten to know the one-liner that a blind pianist witnessed a murder. That is quite an oxymoron. So, I was quite fascinated by that and I came to know that Sriram Raghavan is directing this film. Working with him was a part of my bucket list. I always wanted to work with him, so I texted him. This is the first time I texted a director after becoming an established actor. I met him and asked him, ‘why don’t you take an audition of mine?’. Next day, he took my screen test, and we did a couple of scenes. He loved it."
We guess, AndhaDhun was only meant for Ayushmann and today it is one of his finest works. What do you think? Tweet @bollywood_life and let us know.
