Bollywood's latest release Veere Di Wedding is making all the right noise in the society. There are many disturbed by the movie because haww... how can women do those things! There are a few raising legit criticisms. But the praises are in abundance. One scene that the internet has coined 'pathbreaking' is the one featuring Swara Bhasker's character masturbating. It was an uneasy experience for many fictional grandmothers as per internet. But many saw the changing outlook towards women in Indian cinema and lauded the team of Veere Di Wedding for being gutsy enough. Well, if you are thinking that this is the first time we saw a woman masturbating in a Hindi film, you are forgetting one very crucial film that released in 2017.
Another film that shocked people because women were being humans was 2017's Lipstick Under My Burkha. The CBFC declined the movie a certification for being too “lady oriented” in content and according to the censor board, it was laced with sexual scenes and abusive words. It went on to become a hit and garnered critical acclaim upon its release eventually. In this very movie, there is another 'pathbreaking' scene. At one point we see Ratna Pathak Shah's character Usha Parmar pleasure herself in the bathroom. It was even more impactful because the scene features an older woman satisfying herself. Interestingly, both Veere Di Wedding and Lipstick... have been backed by Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Productions. Kudos to her! Even in Kalki Koechlin's heart rendering film, Margarita with a Straw, her character goes 'Apna hath Jagganath' for her pleasure. Now, that was certainly 'pathbreaking'. There is a 1987 film titled Sansar, which starred Rekha and Raj Babbar in lead roles. It had a scene where a woman has a wet dream. For a movie released in 1987, it was a big deal.

Well, the very fact that there is so much hue and cry about women feeling the humane need to do something about a sexual desire is alarming. Chill, guys! Everyone does it. And it is just shown in these movies.
